5 Guys More Badass Than You
Let’s face it — some guys are just more awesome than you. If you want to grow beyond your potential, you need to learn from those that have been where you want to go. Below is a list of five fitness professionals I follow and strive to emulate and learn from. Whether in life (Nate Green), business (Alwyn Cosgrove) or training (Matt McGorry), these guys know their stuff and can teach you a lot. Here’s what makes them so much more badass than you:

Nate Green is a Pimp. Notice the capital “P”. This man is only a year older than me and already he’s published a very successful book, trained with some big-time coaches and contributes regularly for various other publications, both online and off. Nate’s got his finger on the pulse of strength and conditioning, and if anyone is going to get the inside scoop on the latest trends and techniques, it’s this guy.
If Martin Scorsese were to make a movie about the fitness industry, Alwyn Cosgrove would be that crime boss no one messes with because everyone knew better. Alwyn has probably forgotten more about fat loss and body composition than most personal trainers will ever learn, and he will not hesitate to tell you the butt-ugly truth about your current, mostly useless training routine. Lately, Alwyn has shared his savvy with other trainers and strength coaches looking to take their business to the next level. Most fitness professionals treat their business like a hobby, Alwyn says, and they are not operating at their full potential. Look to Alwyn for tips and tricks to succeed in this industry.
Matt and I went to High School together and he’s one of the reasons I got into this business. I have watched him grow into a very serious strength coach and I can safely say this guy will be one of the next great fitness experts in this business.. He writes occasionally for T-Nation and EliteFTS, is a contributing writer for various print magazines and is always training for a new competition. I expect very cool things from him in the future.
Jim is co-creator of Diesel Crew, the best source for creative strength training techniques on the web. He and his co-founder, Jedd Johnson, have been turning toothpicks into draft picks for years. The Diesel Crew motto is, “Achieving Beyond Potential” and Smitty has done just that! After releasing countless strength programs and inventing novel uses for old equipment, I strongly believe these are the guys you want to model your efforts after, both as a fitness professional and as a strength enthusiast. Learn from them and you learn from the best.
John Berardi is the creator of Precision Nutrition, a no-nonsense eating plan for beginners and experts alike. This man knows more about fruits, vegetables and beef than anyone else I know. While you might not find the pH levels of kumquats exciting, he sure does. And good thing too, because, John’s scientific approach to eating is the reason I know about G-Flux, low-carb dieting and why green tea may be bad for you. John lives by his own rules and is constantly tweaking his nutrition system, so follow his research for insights into the future of health eating.
